failures and solutions

i attempted to sell some prints downtown this weekend. i didn't have much success, which i can attribute to a variety of factors.

my vector style doesn't really fit in with the 40-60 year old female demographic. i didn't package them well {it rained tons and i didn't have good sleeves}. our tent wasn't traffic friendly a vast majority of the time.

i'm a commercial artist - i suppose i just needed a reminder.

as far as sqeez is concerned, the more i analyze the interface, the more i realize how it's lacking.

it doesn't say hi. it's not friendly. it's not web 2.0. it's not energizing. it's not minimal.

it's much harder to build a framework than to just build towards something that's already truly defined.

we also switched servers over the weekend, which resulted in a little bit of downtime.

I would give you a point for posting, but it's a little too depressing. Well, let's fix this thing. Start with the homepage. If I were referred to sqeez.org, there's nothing on the homepage that really grabs my attention. I can either signup or not. You gotta sell it baby, SELL! If you don’t have anything to sell, well you are in luck bro. On the Internet, you can sell your vision. Don’t have a vision? Go get one!

Sqeez is a social network. Human beings need to socialize, we need to connect. We love to share our opinions with others. We do this through a variety of ways, but the Internet allows us to create an identity much larger than life. You need to reach out to the masses, you need to tap into their need to connect with other people. The easier you make the connections, the more people will want to share.

Myspace is a nice way to connect with your friends and your friends’ friends…but it doesn’t go much deeper than that. What happens when you want to connect with someone outside of this circle of friends? Along with the desire to voice our opinions, people love to share information, especially information that is not generally known. The key is bridging the network between a user seeking information and a user looking for someone to share this information with.

I like nao's design. Take that basic idea and run with it. Make the icons animated, the gears turn, the question marks bobs up and down and the plus sign spins or something. Make them dynamic, each section spawns a little bubble with a summary of that section's function when a user hovers his mouse over it. Integrate a miniature version of the stream into the main page: users will see things happening in real time and will want to get involved.

DITCH THE GRAY SCALE COLOR THEME ALREADY

@nao: didn't see all the work you posted up. i'm sifting my way through it all now, and plan on making some heavy decisions by the end of the day.

besides, we can always fix it later if we fail.
